He studied European music at the Ioannina Municipal Conservatory and Byzantine music at the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolitanate of the same city. He continued his studies in Italy at the
Università degli Studi di Pavia – Scuola di Paleografia e Filologia Musicale, where he received a degree in musicology, with his thesis Le melodie irmologiche bizantine. Il modo terzo plagale. In the academic year 1993-1994 he studied under Prof. J. Raasted at the
University of Copenhagen – Institute for Greek and Latin, on a scholarship he was granted under the European inter-university programme Erasmus. Since December 1999 he has been a Ph.D. candidate in the
Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University. The subject of his dissertation is The Tradition of Hirmological Byzantine Melodies of the Plagal Third Mode-Barys from the 10th to the 16th Century, under the supervision of Prof. Dimitrios Giannelos. Since October 2000 he has been teaching History of Western Music at the
Technological Institute of Epirus, School of Music Technology, Lixouri Branch (Cephalonia), in the
Department of Technology of Musical Instruments, Sound Engineering and Music Production. His particular interests are focused on the field of Byzantine musical palaeography. He has
to date published articles, participated in international congresses and delivered lectures on subjects falling within the scope of his scholarly research.
